Questions We Hear Every Week

The same questions come up again and again. Here are short answers, with links to the longer guides when you want the details.

Do I need an apostille or a legalization?

It depends on the country where the document will be used. If it is a member of the Hague Apostille Convention, you need an apostille. If it is not, an apostille will not be recognized and the document needs consular legalization. Read more.

Can I get a power of attorney online?

No. The person giving the power of attorney has to appear before the notary in person, and visits are by appointment. Read more.

Can I just walk in, or call you?

Please don't. We handle inquiries through the website, by email and on WhatsApp, and office visits are by appointment only. Read more.

I'm not in Istanbul. Can you still help?

Often yes. Documents that qualify can go through our remote E-Apostille service, and we can tell you in advance what has to be done in person. Read more.

What is the difference between a sworn and a notarized translation?

A sworn translation is made by a sworn translator, and a notarized translation is one that a notary has certified. Your document may need both, and the receiving office decides. Read more.

I don't have a Turkish tax number. Is that a problem?

Not for us. If you don't have one, we take care of getting it issued. Tell us when you book. Read more.

Can I get an apostille in Turkey for a document from my own country?

No. A foreign document has to be apostilled or legalized in the country that issued it. We handle the sworn translation and the notarization in Turkey once that is done. Read more.

My name is spelled differently on two documents. What should I do?

Tell us before the translation starts. A translation repeats the spelling on the document, and a mismatch with your passport is a frequent reason for rejection. Read more.

Does my child need a consent letter to travel?

It depends on the destination country, the airline and the situation, so ask them before you book. If one is required, we recommend getting their draft first so that the wording fits. Read more.

How long is an apostille valid?

That is set by the country where you will use the document, and some offices only accept recently issued documents. Ask the receiving office before you start. See how long it takes.
