E-Apostille in Turkey
An e-apostille is the electronic version of the apostille. It does the same job as the paper one, but it is issued digitally and can be handled without anyone travelling to Istanbul. It is a convenient route, but only for the right document and the right destination.
What it is
A paper apostille makes a Turkish public document acceptable in other Hague Apostille Convention countries. An e-apostille serves the same purpose, but it is issued electronically with an electronic signature, and the receiving party can verify it online. It is paperless from start to finish.
Paper apostille vs. e-apostille
| Paper apostille | E-apostille | |
|---|---|---|
| Format | Attached to the paper document | Electronic, with an electronic signature |
| Valid in | Hague Convention countries | Hague Convention countries |
| Verification | By the receiving office | Online, by the receiving office |
| Available for | Most Turkish public documents | Only documents that qualify |
When you can use it
- The destination must be a Hague member. For a non-member country, an apostille of any kind will not be recognized and the document needs consular legalization instead. See Apostille or Consular Legalization?
- The document must qualify. Not every document can be apostilled electronically, and which ones can depends on the document type and the authority that issues it. Tell us what you have and we will confirm whether it qualifies.
- The receiving office must accept an electronic document. Some offices are happy with an e-apostille, and others still ask for paper. Ask them before you choose.
Mistakes that cost time
- Assuming every document qualifies. Some documents still need the paper route.
- Choosing it for a non-member country. The destination decides whether you need an apostille or legalization.
- Not asking whether the receiving office accepts an electronic apostille. If it doesn't, you lose the time you hoped to save.
- Forgetting about translation. If the receiving office needs another language, tell us when you ask. The steps depend on the document, and we will set out the right route for yours.
